Original Winemaker Notes

Our 2005 Merlot is lustrous, dark-ruby color with a lovely perfume of red and black currants, cream of cassis, pencil lead, Asian spices and wild berries. On the palate, it is a rich layered, velvety-textured wine with complex flavors of spicy ripe black fruit, earth, and cedar. This wine has a great sense of place, beautifully balanced with a terrific, long finish.

Pronounced aromas of juicy, dark fruit and cocoa blend with dusty gravel and pencil shavings in this energetic vintage. The palate features opulent notes of black plum, blueberries, and spice. Polished tannins and rich fruit make for a velvety smooth mouthfeel and the finish is all about structure and power.

The goal with our vineyard designate blends is to emphasize the personality of each of our estate vineyards and showcase the uniqueness they bring to our wines; this vintage is no exception. Subtle fragrance of ripe red cassis, fennel pollen, and dried tobacco dominate the aromatics. Fresh acidity on the palate accentuates the presence of cranberries, floral tones and Herbes de Provence. A velvety mouthfeel and seamless tannins highlight the elegance of this vineyard, year after year.
